COBIT 5: A Business Framework for the Governance and Management of Enterprise IT

COBIT 5 is the latest edition of ISACA’s globally accepted framework, providing an end-to-end business view of the governance of enterprise IT that reflects the central role of information and technology in creating value for enterprises. The principles, practices, analytical tools and models found in COBIT 5 embody thought leadership and guidance from business, IT and governance experts around the world.

 

Overview

COBIT 5 is the only business framework for the governance and management of enterprise IT. This evolutionary version incorporates the latest thinking in enterprise governance and management techniques, and provides globally accepted principles, practices, analytical tools and models to help increase the trust in, and value from, information systems. COBIT 5 builds and expands on COBIT 4.1 by integrating other major frameworks, standards and resources, including ISACA’s Val IT and Risk IT, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) and related standards from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Session Details: Software Asset Management

The first part of the session will cover the following aspects:

  • What is Software Asset Management (SAM) and how can SAM help organisations?
  • What is the risk of not implementing SAM processes?
  • What and who is involved in SAM?

The second part of the session will cover the following aspects:

  • Intellectual property law and copyright legislation and the raison d'être for its existence.
  • Sources of Maltese copyright law (with EC law ramifications) and the salient features of the Maltese Copyright Act (i.e. the requirements for copyright to come into existence, the rights given by copyright and some exceptions thereto, first ownership of copyright, and reference to the sui generis rights in databases).
  • Issues of enforcement in the field of copyright (civil, criminal and administrative), including existing challenges.

 

Speaker Biography: Mr. Evgeny Danilov  & Dr. Antoine Camilleri

Mr. Danilov

Engeny joined Microsoft Central and Eastern Europe office in Munich as a Business Development Director for Multi-Country Area in 2010 after successful 15 years career at Microsoft Russia.

Back in 1994 he joined Microsoft as a Marketing Manager, and in 1996 he was appointed for the role of Anti-Piracy Manager for the Russian subsidiary of Microsoft. He is known to be the founder of long-term strategy in combating software piracy in the country, and under his leadership Russia successfully executed on a multiple initiatives that resulted in substantial reduction of software piracy and created the foundation for the further development of the Russian IT market. Several of the programs and initiatives designed at that time in Russia are still successfully implemented in Microsoft offices around the globe. His effort in the development and execution of anti-piracy initiatives was recognized in 2001 by a special corporate award “For Outstanding Contribution to Microsoft”.

After spending 6 years in Anti-piracy Role, Evgeny was appointed to the Board of Directors of Microsoft Russia, where he changed a variety of senior management positions. He was Director for Customer and Partner Experience, Director for Citizenship, and Director for PR and Communications of Microsoft Russia. He holds multiple rankings in “Russia 100 Top IT persons” and he was rated the 2d in “Top 10 Russia’s PR Directors”.

In 2009 he became the Director of Strategic Projects in Russia, being focused on long-term and impactful IT technology showcases. One of his teams was able to achieve the status of “Official Software Supplier” for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi already after he left Russia, though he was the one to kick off and led the project for almost a year.

Prior to Microsoft Evgeny spent several year working in the Russian government and academic institutions before 1992, and running the private business in 1992-1994. He graduated from the Economic Faculty of the Moscow State University in 1986, and his post-graduate thesis was devoted to the economies of South Eastern Asia.

Evgeny is based in Munich and spends most of his time traveling in the region and working with Microsoft field offices on strategic initiatives, where Anti-piracy is the biggest one given the high level of software piracy in most of Eastern European countries.

Dr. Camilleri

Antoine is a Partner with the law-firm of TCV Advocates.  He specialises in intellectual property law and in information and communications technology law.  His work mainly involves advising foreign and local clients in intellectual property matters including the registration of trade marks, patents and designs with national and overseas authorities and in the drafting of agreements on intellectual property including licensing arrangements, and related litigation.  He also provides legal advice in the field of information and communications technology including the drafting of various forms of computer software and hardware contracts, website/portal development agreements, computer licensing arrangements and advice rendered in respect of encryption issues.
