Workshop : “Demystifying IEEE 802 Standards" |

A Workshop titled “Demystifying IEEE 802 Standards” shall be held on Monday 26th April 2010 at the Excelsior Hotel, Valletta. This event is being organized by the IEEE Malta Section in conjunction with IEEE Region 8, IEEE-SA and the IEEE Standards Education Committee. This one-time event is being organized as part of the MELECON 2010 conference (Refer to www.melecon2010.org). Registrants to the MELECON 2010 conference can attend the workshop for free. We are offering the local Engineering and ICT community the possibility to register just for the Workshop at the prices below.
This workshop will provide a detailed overview of IEEE 802 Standards and cover each of the Working Groups developing standards in both the wired and wireless areas with an emphasis on wireless. Included will be an overview and scope of each technical working group and how they relate or differ from each other. The workshop will also address the subject of technical standards in general, including an overview of IEEE and IEEE Standards Association as well as a short overview of the ITU which IEEE 802 standards have a close relationship with. This will be followed by an overview of the
IEEE-SA Standards Process as well as Standards Education in Technology Programs.
The workshop will be divided into three parts:
* Part 1 (10:30 - 12:10) will provide the IEEE 802 overview and the IEEE 802.1, IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.17, IEEE 802.11 and IEEE 802.15 overviews.
* Lunch
* Part 2 (14:00 - 15:40) will provide the address the remaining IEEE 802 Wireless working Groups, IEEE 802.16, IEEE 802.18, IEEE 802.19, IEEE 802.20, IEEE 802.21 and IEEE 802.22.
* Coffee Break
* Part 3 (16:20 - 18:20) will provide the IEEE-SA and ITU Overview, the IEEE-SA Standards Process as well as Standards Education.
